Commentary | Allegorical scene of great beauty.
In a room, don Quixote, asleep, is protected by Wisdom (as Athena among shining clouds); his arms and barber basin remain abandoned. On the right, Sancho, awake, is captivated by Folly (with a jester scepter among dark clouds), who shows him a crown and a castle (the promised government of the island). Drawing and engraving are acceptable, but with some faults |
Notes | 1 - Plate XXV.
2 - Surrounded by a strong line enclosing underneath a space for inscription, which however has been left blank. 3 - Copy after Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1728-30). 4 - Probably, the copy has been done after the plate for Paris/La Haye: Chez Bleuet, 1774, which has a similar frame and underneath space but with caption. 5 - The plate is not signed. 6 - Placed as frontispiece. |
